Enjoy your visit!

Our Academy

Avenue Primary School became Avenue Primary Academy on 1st September 2015. Both terms 'school' and 'academy' appear on this website, and are used interchangeably.

Avenue Primary Academy is a member of Cirrus Primary Academy Trust, is a Teaching School and a National Support School.

Mission Statement

Avenue Primary Academy is a welcoming school where everyone is valued equally in a safe and supportive environment.  It recognises and develops the potential of each and every person, empowering them and giving them the confidence to play a positive role in society.  Our pupils aim high, believe they can succeed, take responsibility for their own learning and develop as independent learners who think carefully and reflectively.

NSPCC - The Underwear Rule

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The NSPCC promotes ‘The Underwear Rule’ Campaign which aims to raise awareness of the importance of talking to children about keeping safe from sexual abuse. Avenue are supporting the NSPCC in their campaign and feel it is important to teach our children how to keep safe.

Application process for entry to our Academy in September 2016

Applications for Nursery places for children who will be three years old by 1st September 2016 (born between 1/9/12 and 31/8/13) should apply through the Sutton Council website here. Note that, although Avenue is an Academy, the Local Authority will be managing the process for us on this occasion. Closing date for applications: 15th January 2016.

Applications for Reception places for children who will be four years old by 1st September 2016 (born between 1/9/11 and 31/8/12) should apply through the Sutton Council website here. Closing date for applications: 15th January 2016.

Applications for entry to the school for all other year groups (known as mid-term admissions) should be made directly to Sutton Council. Only when a space becomes available do we rank the list and offer the place to the highest on the list according to our criteria. We are therefore unable to inform those on the list of their position.

Tours of the Academy - parents wishing to come and see the Academy action are welcome to join a tour, led by a senior leader, who will also answer your questions. Tours take around an hour and it is helpful if there are no children present, as they can disrupt the learning of children in the classrooms. Please telephone the office (020 8642 5138) to book a tour, and please mention if you have any access requirements, as some areas have steps.

Avenue Primary Academy has a 'Local Governing Board', which is effectively a committee of the Trust (Cirrus Primary Academy Trust). The accountability of the academy rests with the Trust, and many responsibilities are delegated to the Local Governing Board.

To find out about the structure of the Trust, please see this page on the Trust's website.

Avenue's Board consists of:

  • 3 parent governors
  • 1 Executive Head Teacher
  • 1 Head of School
  • 1 Staff Governor
  • 1 Staff co-opted governor (Bursar)
  • 5 other co-opted governors

Total number of governors: 12

Parent governors, the staff governor and the 5 other co-opted governors serve a four year term. Parent governors are elected by the parent body and when a vacancy arises, this is communicated to parents and an election held. Similarly, the staff governor is elected by the staff. Co-opted governors are co-opted by the Trust based on the skills needs within the Local Governing Board.
